Experian Credit Score is now FREE. FOREVER.

The cat’s out of the bag – for the first time, the UK’s most trusted credit score* is now free, for everyone**, forever.

That’s right – the Experian Credit Score, which shows you how lenders may view you, and can be a useful thing to know when you are thinking of applying for credit.

To get your Experian Credit Score FREE forever, sign up to our new CreditMatchera free independent service that helps you compare credit deals you’re more likely to get, based on your credit information.  We are a credit broker not a lender, working with selected lenders†.

What is a credit score?
Well, when you apply for credit, such as a loan, credit card, mortgage, car finance, lenders give you a credit score.

They base this on factors such as the information on your credit report, on your application form, information they may already hold on you, and their own lending policy. There’s no one credit score or magic number – different lenders score differently.

What is the FREE Experian Credit Score?
The Experian Credit Score is free, forever. Checking your Experian Credit Score before you apply for new credit can give you a good indication of how lenders may view you based on information in your Experian Credit Report.

It runs from 0-999, and usually a higher score means you’re seen as lower risk, which means you could be more likely to get a credit card, a loan or a mortgage, and at better rates too.

Making sure you look around for a deal that you’re more likely to be accepted for, as well as being best suited to you and your credit history, can be important.

We believe that your Experian Credit Score is the only score that matters, and it should be free forever.

So how come the Experian Credit Score is now free?
We’re able to provide your Experian Credit Score for free because we receive commission from some lenders and brokers when you choose them from our search results on CreditMatcher, and click through to their site or make an application.

This works in the same way as most of the insurance and utility comparison sites you’re probably familiar with.

Get your FREE Experian Credit Score NOW!

*Most trusted’ based on 69% of 1228 respondents ICMUnlimited survey July 2016. Survey information available at Experian.co.uk.

**Available to UK residents aged 18 years or over and subject to identity checks.

†Experian acts as a credit broker and not a lender in the provision of its credit cards and personal, car finance and guarantor loans matching services, meaning it will show you products offered by lenders and other brokers.

Experian acts independently and although CreditMatcher shows products for a range of lenders and other brokers it does not cover the whole of the market, meaning other products may be available to you. CreditMatcher services are provided free however we will receive commission payments from lenders or brokers we introduce you to.

Hi Jed, I apologise if you have had difficulty signing up. We accept the following card types:
Credit cards – Visa & Mastercard
Debit Cards – Maestro and Visa Debit
Visa Electron (you will need to select Visa as the card type)
If you don’t have one of these you can still obtain a copy of your report by ordering a one off statutory report for £2.00 by cheque or Postal Order.
You can download the application form here.

    Hi,

This is misleading “the UK’s most trusted credit score* is now free, for everyone**, forever”.
The service is not free. After a 30days trial there is a monthly membership fee to pay.
I know that by clicking on the sentence that another page pops up explaining better but still I think that the message given with that sentence is wrong.
The service is free of charge for the first 30days and then a monthly fee applies.
Your competitor CLEARSCORE, instead, offers a free service. Forever.
I’m sure you will not post this comment but I just wanted to highlight this.

    Thanks

Hi, Thanks for your interest. Experian offer two separate online products each with their own features and benefits.

Experian Credit Matcher is completely free and includes access to your Experian Credit Score and Experian’s Credit Comparison tool to help you find the best deals on Credit Cards, Loans and Mortgages.

While Experian CreditExpert provides you with access to your full Experian Credit Report in addition to score and additional features including:
*Online Identity Protection (credit report and web monitoring alerts)
*Access to our Customer Care Team
*Support if you become a Victim of Fraud
Your Experian score with CreditExpert membership is also updated daily, rather than every 30 days as the free score via Credit Matcher is.

We offer a 30 day trial for the CreditExpert service so that you can decide if the service is suitable for you, after this the membership fee is £14.99 a month.

If you only want to view your credit report you can apply for a one off report for £2.00, this is a statutory fee that goes towards the cost of producing the report.

You can find out more about all these services here.

    Hi,

    Could you explain;

How do I switch FROM the Creditexpert service to the new, Creditmatcher?

I’ve just logged into creditexpert and it says, “As you already have an account, we’ve logged you in to CreditExpert where you can access all the features of CreditMatcher”.

Concerning as I actually can’t, for example I can’t access a new file everyday, only every 30 using the new system… You need to be more clear with customers otherwise yet another refund of all unnecessary charges, just like before, will ultimately happen again…

Please advise how I change over as I’m no-longer, sadly paying £14+ a month for a report lenders only update every 30 days anyway! Come on Experian!

Hi Scott, The CreditMatcher service provides you with your Experian Score for free once every 30 days. CreditExpert which is £14.99 a month will refresh each day – but as you mentioned yes lenders send us monthly updates every 4-6 weeks for the report. You can cancel CreditExpert and revert to the free CreditMatcher service either online in your membership section, by email or by phone. Sorry very disappointed as to what is on offer here with the ,FREE, advert. I used expedient for years paying the expensive fee of £14.99 every month . On finding mistakes on the report it took ages for them to get it corrected and gave it up as it was far too costly. I was one of the first offered Noddle as a trial which is completely free and an excellent product . This is totally free . I did try to register for Experian free forever however when it requested a card details I chose not to pursue the application as I cannot understand why you need this information unless sometime in the future you will make some sort of charge. The excuse you need it for ID can,t be right as surely you will cross check it with the electoral register as this is more reliable. All in all I think thAt this is a very misleading piece of information ‘re the ad saying that it is FREE FOREVER .

They do very little for their costumers. They certainly do not earn their £180/year we pay them.

    Hi Guys
I have been with Experian for a number of years and have been very pleased with the service .I can appreciate the benefits of Credit Expert opposed to Credit Matcher, I can also see the argument that a portion of Credit Expert is now offered free, a great company would be to show this within the Credit Expert fee i.e revert to the £9.99 fee we enjoyed a while ago .This would indeed be a 33%reduction in revenue but could negate a large % withdrawal from Credit Expert.
I believe membership would increase with promoting free access and paid for bolt on benefits.
At present I will be staying with Credit Expert at I feel secured by the access to the report and alerts !!

I have to say that I am very disappointed with the way that Experian have mislead the public. You are lured in with a free forever credit check but when you sign in (And i did try to read the small print) you are then told that you will be charged £14.99 at the end of the 30 day free trial!!! This is not made clear at all. I had paid the £14.99 for a number of years and feel that I have been mislead with the cunning FREE FOREVER head line. It is not clear that there are two products. Put two big buttons on your site – FREE FOREVER and FREE FOR 30 DAYS!!

God knows how long it will be before I can get this thing cancelled!!

What A Scam from what is meant to be a trusted company – you blatantly know this is misleading – stating free forever, you known, yes you do, you know thousands of people will trust experian and give over all their details including the security code so you can charge the card nicely after 30 days. yes you will repay a number who notice and apologise with the already completed letter you know is going to be necessary for those who complain and state I am sorry if it is unclear but…..excuse excuse excuse, why cannot you massive companies try and be honest and just put in big letters next to the free for life for everyone THERE IS HOWEVER A MONTHLY MANAGEMENT OR ACCOUNT FEE etc??????? Of course not.

If anyone enquires about why ask for security code, I notice one of you put a sarchastic comment to someone else’s question, stating “it is a security code – to protect you from online fraud”. Yes it is a security code to protect you online fraud, but that is as good as a chocolate teapot, once a company has all of those details, which people blindly give out to you. To verify someone’s identity, you do not need the 3 digit pin so people do not give it to them please. You need the card name, address, card number and expiry date. The 3 digit pin is your’s for purchases NOT IDENTITY!!! Anyone who claims otherwise is misleading you.

Oh yes – make sure all comments are moderated first – what a joke. I have just noticed how many people are stating the same thing and still waiting for their refunds, all the time THEIR money sits in your account earning a pretty penny so you can credit check the rest of us – your’s is great as you have ripped everyone else off and are the judge and jury on them too. what a farce. It should be criminal really. Are you not ashamed? Really? If my card gets charged ever, I will take this much much further. After pressing the final button after stupidly giving my details over, the screen went back to the initial information screen like nothing had ever happened like a dream. How many people therefore believe that oh well it errored but i haven;t got time to sort out now i will do it later – ie never, not realising it did work in the background and ha ha they will also be charged the monthly fee they never realised existed. A true disgrace. I actually cannot believe that you are permitted to act like this and not accussed of ‘fraud’. Anyway, please make sure nothing happened on my card and cancel anything to do with my name and email address which you will see but others do not.

There are two separate services that we offer, Credit Matcher which is free and Credit Expert which costs £14.99 after a 30 day trial. You can find out more about the differences in the two services here

And have you explained to customers that you’ve changed the scoring system last year?

My score went from 999 to 700’s for doing the exact same thing I’ve done the past 8 years.

Hi Colleen, we reviewed the way we calculate the Experian Credit Score and made changes to it to make sure that we are giving you the most accurate guide possible and to help you understand how the information on your credit report is likely to be viewed by potential lenders. Hi when I fill in my details for credit matcher it tells me that I was already with credit expert before and to continue to open up the account with my old details, will this automatically start me up with credit expert again and therefore start taking £14.99??? I don’t want to do that to happen I just want to join the matcher

Hi Alison, CreditMatcher and CreditExpert are linked so you can use your original details to log in to CreditMatcher. Just make sure you are logging in through the CreditMatcher portal here and not the CreditExpert portal. It would only ask you to pay £14.99 if you was reactivating CreditExpert.

Hi just signed into the credit matcher there, you can go into a section to find out if u can get a credit card/ loan/ mortgage, if I go into the mortgage search and put in all the details that are required, are they just doing a random search or is it like a proper application type search? that if it was to say that you couldn’t get a mortgage would you have a bad score then added to your credit report because you’ve just done a search and been turned down…if you understand what I mean!

        Reply
        1. CreditExpert Neil

Hi Alison, yes I do understand what you mean!
Whenever you use CreditMatcher, it leaves a ‘soft search’, which isn’t seen by lenders – so doesn’t affect your credit score. Only you will be able to see a record of the soft search we make on your credit report. Lenders won’t be able to see it, and it won’t affect your credit rating in any way.

After you’ve used CreditMatcher, if you click through to apply for a product a ‘hard search’ will be recorded on your credit report. Lenders will be able to see this search and if you have a number of these within a short period of time, they may see this as a negative factor.

Each time you apply for credit a hard search is recorded on your credit report which is visible to potential lenders. Some lenders may view having a number of these within a short period of time as a negative factor when assessing any future applications you make.

What an absolute con – it’s not free at all.

This is purposefully misleading and has been designed to get you interested.

It’s been done as they are threatened by Clearscore – a company that is actually 100% free.

Hi Walker, I can confirm that our CreditExpert service is free of charge.

Experian now offer two different services depending on what’s most important to you.

CreditMatcher is a completely free service which allows you to:
*Check your Experian Credit Score for free – forever
*Check your Experian Credit Score as often as you like – it is available monthly
*Compare mortgages from a range of providers
*Search for Credit Cards and Loans matched to your credit information
      * See credit cards and loan deals you’re more likely to get be accepted for

CreditExpert provides a number of features and benefits which CreditMatcher and/or our competitors do not offer:
      • Access to your Experian Credit Report
      • Score Factors to tell you specifically what’s impacting your Experian Credit Score
      • Guidance on how to address any negative factors
      • Credit alerts which alert you if certain parts of your Experian Credit Report change
      • Web Monitoring and alerts if we find possible misuse of your personal details online
      • Access to help from Experian’s award winning UK based call centre
      • Dedicated support from one of our expert case workers if you become a victim of fraud

The CreditExpert service costs £14.99 per month, and we offer a 30-day trial for new CreditExpert customers so you can view your Experian Credit Report as well as explore the many other benefits included with the membershipThe same monthly price applies to customers who are reactivating their CreditExpert memberships.

You can also apply for a one-off copy of your credit report for £2.00 (the fee covers the administration costs of producing the report). You can find out more about these services here.
      Kind regards Neil.

    Hi,
I recently joined clearscore to view my credit report and score. I have since been told by many reputable people that their scores sometimes are not very reliable.

If I were to join experian credit matches (the free credit score one, not the £14:99 a month credit report one ) would this have a negative impact on my score. I know looking at my own score is considered a soft search and won’t be visible to lenders but does the process of doing too many soft searches in a short space of time cause problems?

    Thanks
    Jen

    Reply
    1. CreditExpert Neil

Hi Jen, thanks for getting in touch. Each Credit Reference Agency can hold different information and lenders can often search your information with more than one agency so it can certainly be worth checking your information with each agency.
I’m glad to say you can check your Experian Credit Score as often as you wish and it will not have any impact on your report or score. The “soft” searches are not seen by any other lenders and are for your reference only, so however many are on the report it won’t change your score at all.
      Kind regards Neil.

If we were not able to identify your partner when she applied then her membership will not have been activated and she would not need to contact us to cancel.

I had Experian paid membership for few years. Their score does not have any value. Simply waste of time and money to register with Credit Agencies. They even do not have full data about you, they build the database base on information you provide them. Complete nonsense industry.

      Hi There,

In terms of the information you see on your Experian Credit Report, you would see the same information which we would share with lenders when they view your report if they did request this from us. In terms of how credit reference agencies do work, you might want to read this guide for more information.
