February 9th marks the thirteenth annual Safer Internet Day (#SID2016), a day dedicated to finding out how we can help make the internet a safer place.
Safer Internet Day, organised by Insafe in February of each year, has the target of promoting safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially among children and young people across the world.
This year’s campaign slogan and theme is “Play your part for a better internet.”
To promote respect and kindness on the internet, they are encouraging schools, organisations and individuals to use the hashtag #shareaheart on Tuesday 9th February.
It’s vital to educate children in the skills needed to respond to online situations they may encounter such as cyberbullying, phishing and inappropriate content or communication.
Between September 2014 and September 2015 they organised 70 events relating to online safety, and delivered 493 sessions in schools to over 44,000 children.
