How can I resolve my address discrepancy?

Hi James,

I've already got an account with Experian and my latest report indicates a score of 968, which is good. I've applied for a Virgin credit card and unfortunately their system couldn't find my address. My address use to be 1st floor flat......but it has now been changed to flat 2... and all my bills and correspondence comes to 1st floor flat address though both are the same place. My application to Virgin was rejected as expected because their system couldn't find the 1st floor flat address but could find flat 2... which I’ve used to do the search. I was wondering how to update my credit report so that 1st floor flat and flat 2 are recognised as the same address.

Dear Keevin,

An Experian Credit Score of 968 is actually classed as excellent, so your credit history must be pretty impressive. That said, and as you recently found out, a discrepancy with your address can cause problems, especially as your credit report is often used to assess your credit rating and your identity. In view of your comments we’ve tidied up how your address is registered on your credit report. It might also help if you make sure all of the organisations you still deal with update their records with the newer version of your address, which will mean all the live records on your report are updated with the correct flat prefix. If you do this, and make sure you use the new version of your address when you apply for credit in future, I don’t think you’ll have any more problems.

James
