Some of the information on a search is wrong. How do I get it changed?
return to top

The details shown on the search should be the same as you provided on your application form. If you think any details are incorrect contact the company or lender concerned. The company or lenders will amend their records (if applicable) and tell all credit reference agencies of these changes. The agencies (Equifax, Callcredit, and Experian) will then update the data they hold. 498

How do I get duplicate searches removed from my credit report?
return to top

We can only remove a search if we are told to do so by the company who made it. If you want to remove a search from your credit report you need to contact the lender directly. If they agree to remove the search they will notify us and we will update your credit report.

In some cases it is possible that an initial search was made further to your application and then an "enquiry" was made by the same company while making further investigations into your application. If this is the case then both entries should be kept on your report. 496

What do I do if there's a search on my report that I know nothing about?

Contact the lender who made the search and ask for further details. If the lender agrees to remove a search they will tell us and we will change your report. It may be that the search is in the name of a finance company used by a smaller company which you may know. 497
